OLF & Its members and sponcers are simply a great group of real people!

Just think about it-makers helping each other with no holding back "secrets"
suppliers offering the best of woods and services!

No offense -but "THIS IS HEAVEN"

I can say that, as a person just coming into this craft, the OLF is a godsend. I want to express my thankfulness to all of the members and sponsors of the forum. It just would not be possible to do this without the support of all of you. I really can't imagine even thinking about making the leap to trying to build a guitar 20 or 30 years ago.

Hat's off to all!!

I've been thinking just that lately, my favorite site by far...I too appreciate the sharing of information, great stuff!

I couldn't agree more. This is a wonderful place to hang out. Its informative, inspirational, and just plain fun. I have not been on another forum where people are so gracious with their knowledge, time, materials and help. I find I spend more time here than any place else.

Thanks for everything and for being yourselves.

Mike, you and i are part of something even bigger than Heaven for us, the more i hang out here, the more i smile to people, i often think of all the friends while at work and in the shop, what someone said and how this group is made of a very fine fabric.

I believe that when you build guitars that you are gifted and when you finally find the OLF, you're either truly blessed or truly spoiled and maybe truly both!

Everything is a gift and I'm so glad that everyone here has received this wonderfull gift of the OLF.

What a unique place in a world often hard to navigate.

Thank you to all who make up the OLF

Well, we could all keep our "secrets" to ourselves (not that I had any . But the whole craft grows when everyone shares. They may be calling this the golden age of lutherie, but it's places like this (and the journals) that make it so.

Guess it all depends on what you are looking for. There is good stuff here, but there are also some good things on other forums that are not on this one, so they are all of some value.

This one does tend to often have the "mutual admiration society" tone a bit more than fits my tastes.

Geez, Hesh, You missed my whole point. I was not expressing any displeasure. Hey, good stuff here.

But it does get a bit much sometimes reading how wonderful this place is compared to everywhere else, over and over and over. The rest of the world still exists. Just let's not get so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget that

And I mean nothing negative by any of that, but the fact that you reacted in the way you did sort of reinforces my thinking. Again, no offense intended, just my observations which, as adults, we all should be able to handle.

Right on Todd! The primary reason I don't post there, and why they will never get a DIME from me.

Which reminds me - time for me to renew here! For me, I come here 'cause I feel welcome to do so. If I ask a question, it normally gets thoughtfully answered - without contempt. I also think if I were to ASK for an honest critique, I will get just that - without being made to feel like a moron.

Thanks OLF!

I'm one of the guilty ones who comes here time after time to say how this place is great and by that, i don't mean to say that the other forums aren't because i'm not even posting elsewhere...

My attitude and behavior and even silliness here might not please everyone but i really can't apologize for being who i am and won't start being someone else soon either. I think i could offer an honest critique if personaly asked but if not, i feel like my role is one of encouragement towards my brethren, i'd rather trust the more seasoned coaches for the critiques since i'm only working on no 3 now.

Grant, i take no offence in your first post here and i think that if a seasoned person like you can live with the guy i am, i certainly can live with the most serious of you guys, i certainly hope we can all get along, life is too short to get divided!

Best

Should we perhaps have an organized critique section?

I am another that simply appreciates this place to come and read. I sometimes post but not that often. I like the funny stuff and the serious matters. I like OLF for the compassion we show to others. I am grateful to Lance for starting the forum. Also for Brock and his many faces he wears around here. I do not compare it to other forums and don't need to. I have gleaned many a good idea. Have problems solved. I have been able to buy things through suppliers, auctions and group buys. There is information here that is priceless. From all parts of the world. Not all luthiers are here and neither should they be. I appreciate those that are here and have participated. This forum is a good place to visit. I am happy to be part of this Forum.

Thanks guys!!

Lance and I certainly appreciate the kind words. We really try to keep the community light, but informative. I agree that we are really not competing with any of the other forums. We just try to nudge the culture of the forum in a direction that we think works. Certainly other formats can work too, but we like this one.

You are a great group of folks and we are looking forward to a fantastic 2007.

Go Team OLF!!

Like Ron, I was also happy to be part of this forum. For my own sake, I
need to participate where I won't feel the need to reduce myself as a
person in order to participate. I believe the people here are very good
people.

Here's a example of why we should be happy with what we've built here. I was on MIMF last night following a thread on tap tuning. One of the members asked if there were sources where one could learn about tapping and what it means. I posted what I thought was an informative suggestion that helped me...it was a suggestion to watch the John Mayes' DVD's on "Voicing". Literally, within minutes my post was deleted!

It was replaced by the following..."I have deleted the previous message as that vendor is banned here for spamming the MIMForum." This is a sad and sorry way to promote the free exchange of ideas. I guess that's why I choose to spend most of my time here.
